Mediafonds@Sandberg (2000 – 2009) was a master class of the Sandberg Institute and the Media Fund, in which TV makers and designers collaborated on concepts for new media applications in the changing film and TV industry. Around ten meetings were held, in which guest speakers gave lectures and reacted to the proposals made by the participants. The results were made public. On completion the plans became eligible for support from the fund for putting them into practice. The fund wanted to use this activity to promote the knowledge of e-culture and to stimulate collaborations between programme makers and designers. I made the programme for nine years, deciding on the themes, and thus helped in the development of many exceptional productions. Speakers included: Bruce Sterling, Peter Greenaway, Arjo Klamer, Henk Oosterling, Joost Raessens, Ine Poppe, Christian Fonnesbech, Chris Dooks, Paul Frissen, Arjan Mulder, Mechtild Prins, Fiona Raby, Bas Haring, and many others.
Biggest Visual Power Shows
Image and visual recognizability have surpassed the system of alphabetical order. The extraordinary thing about visual culture is not the number of pictures being produced but our deep need to visualise everything that could possibly be significant. Visualisations are an indispensable part of our meaning-making cycle. Without visualisation, there is no reality.
After Amsterdam, Zollverein, Eindhoven…, more than 25 visionary statements from artists, scientist, designer, filmers, writers… the Biggest Visual Power Show presentation of “Next Nature” came to the historic Million Dollar Theater in Downtown Los Angeles, appropriately across from the utopian architectural landmark, the Bradbury Building. Organization by Mieke Gerritzen and Koert van Mensvoort.
